  • Byzantine Fault Tolerance
    • A Byzantine fault is any fault presenting different symptoms to different observers.
    • A Byzantine failure is the loss of a system service due to a Byzantine fault in systems that require consensus among multiple components.
    • The idea is when a fort is being attacked, the generals have to decide collectively whether they should continue to fight or to retreat. It is better to coordinate and retreat than for some groups to make a half-hearted attack.
